Superhero Taxonomy

The Illustrious Omnibus of Superpowers, created by Pop Chart Labs. A super handy taxonomy for all types of superhero powers.

Can’t remember who can Envelope body in Fiery Plasma? Just use their handy magnify tool to find out. Plus, it’s gorgeously designed with vintage muted colors and retro science lab shapes. A great gift for your favorite superhero lover. Or anyone who loves charts.

(Thanks for the tip Fanboy.com)

I saw this quote on an Instagram image from the lovely Maile Wilson. It spoke to me. So I designed it.

Music Philosophy

Clever, meaningful and stunning. This is exactly the kind of site I like to find when taking a work break at 1:00am. A weekly typographic interpretation of philosophical song lyrics. Perfectly sized for iPhone wallpapers, or you can buy one from the Etsy shop.

What philosophical song lyric would you like to see on a poster?

Mr. Mad Men

I love it. The Poke has re-imagined The Mr. Men series and created a new “book” based on the tv show Mad Men. Two retro tastes that taste great together. I hope they actually create the whole series!

(Thanks kdiddy and MamaPop!)

Sign of the Times

Well folks. It’s official. We have been in our LEAP office for a full year now, so we decided “what the heck, let’s put some signs up!”

There are many advantages to being tucked away in our sweet, squat little 1950s building, but we think our clients (and more importantly, our potential clients) will appreciate us making it a little easier to find our office. What can I say, we’re givers.

So now you have no excuse not to visit us. And as soon as the Diamond reopens across the street, just give us a shout as you’re pulling in and we’ll meet you over there!

A Hat for Your Vampire Weekend

07 September 2010   //     4 comments   //   design, music, wearable

So I was exploring the internets, looking for cool music tshirts for Zoe and Lucy, and this popped up: a Vampire Weekend earflap hat. So retro rad. Don’t you think I should get two? Me too!

Meanwhile, I found a whole site full of great band merch! Check it ALL out.

Zoku Pops!

Have you seen this yet? The super speedy popsicle maker called Zoku? Zoe and Lucy got one for their birthday and we are in LURVE with it. Seriously, you can make a batch of homemade fancy pops in less than 10 minutes. And because of the super fast freezy magic, they can even be well designed pops! Rad, right?

So far we have made Strawberry Cherry, Raspberry Lemonade, and Chocolate Milk pops. On the horizon are Cucumber Chili, Avocado, and Watermelon Mint.

What else should we make? What kind would you make?

Paper Town Friends

Sit down friends. I have something great to show you. Really really great. It’s a new iPhone app called Paper Town Friends created by clever Robin Rosenthal. Paper Town Friends features a bunch of paper cut-out characters for you to dress with their very own paper cut-out clothes and hats and accessories.

Robin cut out by hand all the tiny clothes and shoes and hats in the app. And get this — they’re even tiny in real life! Teeny crocs — with holes! A wee shriner’s fez! Baby batik tunics! It’s all just so freakin adorable.

And I love the effect it creates. The wonky shapes. The messy, decoupaged feel of it all. It’s like a soothing balm for the over-vectorized, over-digitized soul. Sweet and smart and omg so fun! Hooray for Robin! Yay for us! And okay, maybe I’ll let my kids play with it too.

The fantastic-beyond-compare SwissMiss blog is turning 5 and I’m so sad that I can’t attend the bash. So instead I’m participating virtually, via the Flickr party. There’s some great stuff there — be sure to check out all the other well-wishers’ wishes.

One of the most brilliant pieces of unintentional comedy I’ve seen in a good long time.
